OUCH!!

This has not been an easy spring for my little bug... today, I got a frantic phone call from home that there had been an accident and Sophie was hurt. One of those bone chilling phone calls where you just wait for the other shoe to drop. Grant, Sophie and the babysitter were in the driveway riding bikes and Grant accidentally pushed his bike out too far where it got away from him and fell over onto Sophie on her little Dora four wheeler... the metal tube at the end of the handle bars (which is exposed because certain nameless children do not use their kick stands and the rubber handles have been rubbed off on the edges) hit her in the face. The picture speaks for itself (avert your eyes if you are easily upset)...

My little Princess Rocky with quite the shiner...

She was hysterical but calmed down when I sang our special song and rubbed her little hands while she was being numbed up. The plastic surgeon stitched her up with both internal and external stitches and most likely a decent scar on her sweet little face... makes me so sad. Mommy got a little light headed from standing up by her bed and holding her arms down... I had to sit and sip some Sprite so that I did not pass out. She was so brave and even thanked the doctor afterwards. She asked for M&M's for dinner and enjoyed every single one of them (of course, she ate some of her regular dinner too)!

She fell asleep in my arms watching her favorite Dora video. I loved cuddling with her and thanking God for the miracle of just missing her eye. Poor Grant is just beside himself... he feels so bad for this to have happened to his baby sister!

Please pray for my beautiful baby girl... that her face heals quickly and without scarring. I miss that sweet, flawless face already...

Wow what a shiner! I really hope she is feeling okay in the morning. I say give her M&M's all day tomorrow too. She deserves them. Feel better Sophie!

Sweet little Sophie!
She will definately be in my prayers!
That must have been so scary to get that phone call!
It's a good thing kids are miraculous healers (that God created them to be). Even if their is a scar, by the time she is grow up, it will be so tiny, it won't even be noticeable. But, I bet she won't even have one!

Give Grant a hug for me! I always felt so bad when my younger siblings got hurt, I still do!

Oh sweet Sophie, So sorry for your booboo. I also got the same tragic phone call earlier this year. Albeit her stitches were in her hairline. But I KNOW how scary that is! You can't get to them quick enough. I am praying for her. We are lucky that babies skin heals so quickly!!!!!!!!!!!

OH Sarah!
I can't imagine how scared you must have been driving home...how painful this was for Sophie...how guilty Grant must feel. Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is ourselves. Remind that little angel boy that no where in the Bible does it say we need to forgive ourselves.

Praying for momma, for speeding healing, no scarring (physical for Sophie, emotional for Grant) and thanks for a great babysitter you can trust with your kiddos!

Can't wait to see you guys!

Poor Momma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I a so sorry that precious baby girl has had to go through so much this year!Bless her heart. Her face will be fine. Curtis was bitten in the face when he was three by a big dog.It looked so bad Sarah. A plastic surgeon also did his stitches and he healed fine. His scars were not bad at all and as he grew, they ended up under his jaw line and near his hair line. So now - you never see them. We are praying for ALL of you!I sure wish I could give you a hug and have a cup of coffee with you .

Thinking of you guys!

Oh, poor Sophie Bug. I pray that her face and eye heals with out scars and I Pray for Grant. It was an accident and everyone knows that he loves his sister and hates that this happened to her. Get well soon Sophie!!!!

Oh, Sarah. You poor things! Thank GOD it didn't hit her eye. THANK GOD. The cut is in a "fleshy" place, so I bet her scar will be very minimal, and probably disappear as she grows. Even if it doesn't, she is perfect, and always will be.

Amy S. said...

I feel sooooooooooo bad! :(
But the good news is...that there will only be a trace of a scar. Amy Joy got the same size cut in the very same place and had to have stitches, all at 3 years old too! It is just a fade of a scar now. Let's hope and pray that the Plastic Surgeon did a good job.
Give a big hug to Grant and of course kisses to our Sophie Bug.

Love and Hugs...

Oh sweet little Sophie! OUCH! She is still incredibly beautiful!

I've heard that cocoa butter and sunscreen can help prevent or greatly minimize scarring - you may want to ask the dr. if they didn't already mention those options. I am just so thankful that it didn't hit her eye! I pray for quick healing and no scar!

Btw, I found your blog through faithfulfroggers! :)

Bless your hearts!!

A couple of years ago my daughter had an accident at day care that required a trip to the emergency room. There is actually a cream that you can buy that is over the counter to help reduce the scar once the stitches are out. I don't recall the name but it can be easily found. I recall that a tube was about $13.

Hang in there!

Oh my gosh! Poor Sophie!

When I was younger, my brother and I were monkeying around and he hit my in the face with a metal baseball bat. It missed my eye by about 2 inches and I looked a lot like Sophie! 20 years later and you can barely see it! In fact, most people don't realize that I even have a scar until I point it out to them!

Sending good thoughts your way!

~Sarah

PS - I found your site through Heather's and love looking at your pictures! I was adopted from Korea 26 years ago and love seeing other families that have adopted!

Poor thing - give her a big old hug from us!!!!

tell Grant - it's not his fault - accidents happen - you can see in his face whenever they are together he loves her!

I don't know who I feel worst for, Sophie, Grant, or you.

Please tell Grant that we know that he is the BEST big brother ever, ever EVER! Accidents happen to everyone.

Sophie is so young, I bet she will hardly scar at all. SO glad you had a plastic surgeon stitch her. They are magicians these days, I tell you!

Poor baby, I hope she feels better soon and I hope her big brother cuts himself some slack things just happen sometimes.

Dmitry has scar in the same place, he got it when he was three and it is still there but he is still beautiful and even if she does scar (which NOW they have that mederma stuff which might help) and we will pray she won't she is so beautiful no one will even notice it.

ANDREEA said...

She is gonna be just fine, don;t worry! The scar can be erase with laser,I did that, and now I have no scar at all.

I hope that Sophie is feeling better! And that Grant is feeling better as well!

I am a nurse in the ER and we had a bunch of kids come in the weekend for stiches! It goes in waves... we can go for a couple of days and have no kids needing stiches and then havie 10 kids come in. It is supposed to be pretty this weekend FINALLY so I am sure we will be really busy this weekend as well.

Have you been able to try All about kids yet? I took the boys last week. It was very crowded. We are going to Kazoing later this week since they are finally feeling better.

I Pray the Sophie feels better and that her scar heals up in no time!

Shannon
Mommy to Jack and Palmer who will be 3 in just 11 days!

I feel so badly for Sophie, for Grant "The World's Best Big Brother" and mommy. I remember a call like that and it is no fun and those head wounds bleed bad. The good thing is that the scare is usually minimal as well. Feed Sophie lots of M&M's and Grant whatever it is he likes. I hope Grant knows it was an accident and Sophie still loves him and he did nothing wrong. All of you just hang in there.

Anonymous said...

I can imagine how frightened you must have been when you received that call. I am glad it was nothing worse than a couple stitches. It was so close to her eye. I feel so sorry for Grant I hope he's OK. I am sure he feels just awful! Did the doctor give Sofie anything for pain? It sure looks painful.

Amanda said...

Aww, bless her little heart. I remember my oldest son splitting his eye open (in the eyebrow area) around the age of 3 as well. I was so upset that his flawless face was ruined forever, but that quickly fades and they are just as beautiful. ;) I'm sure she'll bounce back real quick and thank God it wasn't any closer to her eye. How sad that Grant is so upset as well. He must feel horrible even though it was just an accident.

Sarah,

I am so sorry this happened to poor bug. I know how sick your stomach feels when you look at her sweet little face and see the war wound. My kamakaze M has had 12 stitches in 2 different places on her face. The first time she fell into the dining room table leg which is wrought iron and got 7 stitches in her forehead. The second time she fell into a door frame and got 5 stitches in her eyebrow. The only advice I have for you is...

MEDERMA...faithfully!!!

Take care!

I am so sorry about Sophies accident. My nephew fell when he was 2 1/2 playing with his dad- he was pulling him in a laundry basket and Zach fell straight into the entertainment center. He had close to 40 stitches down the center of his forehead. Today at 7 years old you can barely see the scar. A plastic surgeon also stiched him up. I wanted to share that with you in hopes it make you feel a little better that I think when they are young, the body is amazing at healing...

I know how Grant must feel because my brother felt bad for a long time, but like they say, accidents do happen. I know it was painful for you to watch also.

I hope Sophie is feeling better today.

You and I have had similar events with our little ones. I just blogged about Ian's split lip and his stitches on Friday night. Looks like poor Sophie is hurting though. Praying her face heals quickly and her scar is all but a distant memory.

HollyGee said...

Sarah,

She is still one of the most beautiful little girls I have EVER laid eyes on...shiner, stitches and all.

I had a run-in with a table corner when I was Sophie Bug's age and I ended up ripping my lip in half and I got five stitches. You can't even see the scar now.

Grant,

You are a GREAT big brother, we know you wouldn't do anything to hurt your baby sister. Accidents happen.

Oh, poor baby! Poor Grant! Poor Mommy as well!!! What a day! That was so close to her eye!!! Goodness gracious. I'm sure it will heal up in no time.

This is like reading my own post from a couple of weeks ago. CRAZY!! You will be surprised how quickly she will heal. Her little flace is still flawless!

Tell Grant don't sweat it. I beaned my brother on the back of the head with a big rock when we were little. He has a permanent letter "Y" on the back!!! I was a wreck when it happened but in some weird way I think we were closer after that...

HUGS to you all!

Oh gosh... I'm just now catching up and seeing this.

Poor little Bug and poor momma. Gosh how I know how much you hate to see them in pain and worry about the scarring. I hope she heals well. Gabriella still has a scar on her chest from her burn that I hope will fade over time.

aawww..poor sweet Sofie! I feel so bad for all of you. We adopted a little girl and she has 4 older brothers (bio). I know how they would feel if something like this happened to her. Poor Grant!

Keep something like triple antibiotoc salve on it to keep the scabs away. We have found that less scab=less scar. There is also something else that i highly recommend for scars, this would be for after it is healed. It is a Sunrider product (sold by reps) called Night Emulsion. It is expensive, like $40 for a not so big container but it goes a LONG ways. If you want it and can not find it, I know someone who sells it (not me) :). It's fabulous stuff. I just know how I would feel if my girly had this and wanted you to know about this product.

praying your sweet girl heals quickly and painlessly as possible. ((HUGS))
