Favorite Foto Friday #75 - UP!

We are still UP as the theme goes this week, but have been DOWN as far as communication with the outside world this week! We have experienced a major ice/snow storm here that has left us without internet connection, telephones or cable television since Tuesday. Most neighborhood roads are impassable with ice and trees down. We are very lucky that we have power since more than 175,000 people in our area are still without it since early in the week.

I was finally able to get out of our neighborhood this morning and am at work catching up and thought I would update so we could all link to FFF this week. Since I am without my home computer and pictures, please go HERE to see what I would have posted for my post today. Sabra shows it so well what beauty and destruction we are looking at outside our windows! I am "borrowing" one of her beautiful pictures to tease you into going over to look at more...

Here is Mr. LInky! Sorry he is late!!

Next week's theme is MELT! OK... selfish theme for me... but I am praying for the big thaw and thought it might send good vibes our way to have all of you post your favorite MELTING pictures! Could be fun!

Favorite Foto Friday #74 - NEW!

I am going to continue my FFF this week as a photo recap of my time in Guatemala last month. I just keep going back to these photographs and seeing something new each time.

The theme this week is NEW. The first image of "new" in my head is of new life... babies. And... there sure were some beautiful babies that I had the privilege of capturing with my lens...

Look at this baby girl receiving her new toy... can you just squeeze her?

And Morgan with a new puppy who craved being held and loved on.

One of the sweetest little faces - he is in last week's photos too...

I love how they could sleep anywhere, even in the chaos of what was going on around them.

This is one of a set of twins being carried in a wrap by his father... one of the most precious things I think I have ever seen. Both parents were so proud of their babies.

This is my sponsored family's new baby... he was not so sure what to think of me...

These were the babies in Tierra Linda... this little baby boy had Downs Syndrome and his sister carried him and played with him the entire time we were there.

This little baby was so precious and her mother gladly showed her off for my camera.

Sweetness...

And the newest baby I photographed... Baby Alex's new baby sister...

And, a picture taken in 2007 by my dear friend, Catherine... showing the dichotomy of old vs new... a grandmother walking with this beautiful little girl.

Here is Mr. Linky!! Please link your blog post, not just your blog url.

Snow Angel!

Yeah!! It snowed!! It has been so bitter cold here and just dreary and overcast and the kids have been dying for some snow! Well, last night, we were blessed with a one inch covering and you know we had to get outside to play in it! It may be the only blizzard of the season!

And you know, she was so bundled up, she reminded me of the Christmas Story movie... listening to her pants swish as she tried to walk was hilarious! But, she looked pretty darn cute! She has been sick for almost two weeks and we are down to the remnants of a little leftover cold.

It wasn't very good snowball snow, but she sure tried!

Bug had such a great time and made her very first snow angels!!

All done... help me up!!

A little assistance from mom (not trying to step on her angel - so it looks a bit crude - trust me, she was laughing)...

And tada!!

I did it!!

Sissy took her for a little sled ride and Bug was laughing hysterically doing donuts on the driveway!!

Better be the only donuts this girl does! Morgan is the proud new owner of her very first car! She is so excited. Here she is doing her very best Vanna White impersonation showing off her snow laden car (yes, with Florida tags - it is in shock being up here in the cold after peacefully existing in the tropics before coming to live with us)!

OK... we have had our snow. Ready for Spring now! It is only January?? sigh.....

Favorite Foto Friday #73 - EYES!

Since I have been behind the times in posting about my trip to Guatemala, I am posting my favorite "EYES" pictures from some of the most precious children I have ever met. You can read so much in their eyes...

Do you see...

UNCERTAINTY

December 2008 381-1

WONDER

December 2008 368-1

PENSIVENESS

December 2008 698-1

JOY

December 2008 488

CURIOSITY

December 2008 322-1

I see all these things and more when I look into their eyes. They are the window to what you want to see and what they want to show you. I still have hundreds of thoughts and pictures to share... but it is through the eyes of the children that bring me to my knees. They are the future of Guatemala... and one baby step at a time, we can all BE THE CHANGE we wish to be in this world. By offering a simple toy, by providing a holiday meal, by giving them a chance at an education and an opportunity to become who they want to be. All we have to do is look in their eyes and see the possibilities. Once you have seen with your own eyes, you can never forget that even just one child exists and has been changed because you were there for a moment to make a difference.

Will You Pray For Abby?

PLEASE PRAY FOR ABBY

Let's pray for plenty of healing dreams...

Most of us have already been praying for sweet Abby Riggs. Her family has asked us all to say some special prayers beginning today as she begins the most critical phase of her treatment for cancer.

In hopes that we see many more of these beautiful smiles!

Her dad wants you to know about Abby.

She was adopted from Guatemala. At three years old, she was diagnosed with a high-risk, aggressive form of Leukemia. Certain genetic complications have put her chance of surviving the treatment at about 20%.

I am praying for her and her family. Would you pray for them too?

Here is a video her family has posted to introduce you to this sweet angel if you have not already "met" her.

You are a fighter, Abby! We are here to Fully Rely On God (FROG) until you are healed!

A Special Visit

Do you ever have that feeling when you meet somebody in person that you have "known" for so long that you feel as if you have known them for forever? Have you walked into a home and instantly felt as if you were walking into a house you have been in before? Do you look at your friend's children and just want to scoop them up and hug them because they are there in real life and "you" know them and have watched them grow but refrain because if you did, they would look at you like you are some kind of lunatic, deranged friend of their mother? (It was hard... those kids are gorgeous.)

Well, I had the most wonderful opportunity to visit my dear friend, Heather, while she was in my neck of the woods visiting her family for Christmas. She invited us up to her in-laws house less than an hour from me. When we pulled up in the driveway, this devilishly handsome man (her charming husband, Donnie) came out and gave us all a hug and invited us in. Grant, Sophie and I were immediately welcomed into the warmest, coziest home by the Duckworth family.

(picture off of Heather's blog)

Donnie's parents are so wonderful and immediately, they welcomed us into their home and offered us all kinds of goodies and generous hospitality. Thank you so much Grandma Claudia and Grandpa D for having us!

(picture stolen off of Heather's blog)

Grant found the boys, Kyle, Devin and Brandon playing their Wii and seemlessly fit right into hanging out with and playing with them while Heather, Donnie and I took Sophie and Allie to the basement to play with toys and get to know each other live and in person! I didn't even catch a picture of the boys together!

Allie is so precious! Ten times more beautiful than her pictures do her justice!!

She and Sophie played next to one another tentatively for quite a while. Donnie's parents had saved all their Little People playsets from the "olden" days and the girls had a ball with them! Allie is great at taking turns!!!

The mama- and papa-razzi were too busy talking to take too many pictures and we really enjoyed watching our little miracles playing together! We asked the girls to pose together and little Allie was all over it! Obviously well trained to cheese it up and show her beautiful smile! Sophie stayed her quiet, shy self for most of the visit, but I could tell really liked Allie. And it helped that Grandma Claudia kept offering snacks of M&M's!!

We really had the most wonderful visit and it was so wonderful to meet the Duckworth family... they are every bit as loving and wonderful as they are on their blog!! We thought we would try for a mommy/daughter shot on the couch before we left but one little girl (ahem) was not all that cooperative.

But, I think the girls had a nice time playing with each other and were sad for the playdate to end. They gave each other a hug goodbye, it was so sweet! I think Heather got some better pictures from her camera angle.

Bug was finally warming up and shared her smile before we headed back home.

I look forward to more opportunities to visit with this beautiful family in the future! It was amazing how all these years of laughing, crying, loving and FROGging with them and we had actually never met.

Thank you, Heather and Donnie for inviting us into your family's home for the holidays! It is obvious how much love is between all of you. You are a blessing to so many and I am blessed to call you our friends. You are all AMAZING!

Favorite Foto Friday #72 - COLD!

This week's theme is COLD! It is VERY cold here right now but not cold enough for us to get any snow beyond some pretty dustings. But, I thought I would post a few retro pictures of my favorite COLD pictures of Sophie from the past three winters.

Her first snow in January 2006 at 7 months old. She did not know what to think about it and when she figured it out, she did not like it.

In December 2006, we went to Disney after Christmas to get away from the cold and found it EXTREMELY cold there... enough to buy blankets and hats in the gift shops since we left all semblance of warm clothes back home.

Then, last March, on my birthday... we received 15 inches of the white fluffy stuff and the kids had a blast playing in it! Here are my girls with the sled in the front yard.

And finally... here is Bug all ready for the cold and snow this winter in her furry coat.

Thanks for all your kinds words and prayers!! I have not been blogging much lately as we have been busy figuring alot of things out with our family and Grant. As I have promised too many times, I hope that I will be able to blog more soon as things get more settled and into a routine. Please check out Sophie's new haircut below!

Here is Mr. Linky!!
